Describes the type of TN3270 client typically used with the Express Logon Facility (ELF), and provides an overview of TN3270
listener channel requirements.
Note: This is a technology preview feature only. It is being made available to allow you to test and provide feedback on this new
capability; however, this feature is not intended for production use and it is not supported as such.
With regard to TN3270, the following is required to use ELF with Enterprise Server for .NET:
TN3270 client
You need access to a TN3270 emulator to act as a client.
Enterprise Developer provides the Rumba+ Desktop TN3270 emulator software as an installation option. If you choose to use an alternative emulator,
it must support ELF, and must be configured to send a client certificate.
Note: In most cases, a TN3270 client can connect to an ELF-enabled TN3270 listener even when the client does not support ELF; ELF
negotiation is ignored. However, when a client that does support ELF attempts to connect to a region that is not configured
for ELF, users are required to sign on manually.
TN3270 listener channel
The Express Logon Facility identifies a user by client certificate; therefore, it is available only to TN3270 channels that
are enabled for SSL (also called TLS), and that allow client certificates.
An ELF-enabled TN3270 listener receives input from the TN3270 client and kicks off ELF processing when the input includes
a digital certificate.
Note: Client certificate configuration might require you to identify which Certificate Authorities are to be accepted by Enterprise
Server for .NET. For more information, see your Microsoft documentation for configuring Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
